Redoubling Efforts Against a Culture of Violence?

This article was published in the Sydney morning herald, one of our left leaning papers, following the media attention to the highly popular subject of the recent street violence in Sydney. This type of response only encourages a punitive approach to crime. By publishing propaganda such as this, the SMH insinuates that more police power is the only way to keep these reckless youths at bay. This rhetoric of fear is well worn out, yet is used time and time again...unfortunately because it's effective. Fear sells and helps to keep the liberals in and youths off our street, into gaols. Is this a new way to attract more of a conservative readership? It's a worry to think that this is actually an opinion held by the majority.
